					</table><p>Electric vehicle (EV) sales in India reached a record 2.27 million units in 2025, an over 16% year-over-year increase from 1.95 million units <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/electric-vehicle-sales-2024/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">sold </a>in 2025.</p>
<p>EVs accounted for 8% of overall automobile sales, according to data released by the <a href="https://morth.nic.in/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ministry of Road Transport and Highways</a> through its <a href="https://vahan.parivahan.gov.in/vahan4dashboard/vahan/dashboardview.xhtml" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Vahan Dashboard</a>.</p>
<p>The EV market consistently surpassed the 100,000-unit mark each month, with October recording the highest sales at 236,629 units, followed by November at 218,641 units and March at 205,299 units.</p>
<p>Maharashtra had the highest number of EVs sold, with 266,524 vehicles, followed by Karnataka with 203,288 and Madhya Pradesh with 139,537.</p>
<p>India now has over 8.1 million registered EVs.</p>
<p><strong>Electric two-wheelers</strong></p>
<p>Electric two-wheelers accounted for nearly 56% (1.28 million) of total EVs sold in 2025. <a href="https://www.tvsmotor.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">TVS Motor Company</a> led the segment with the highest sales at 299,010, followed by <a href="https://www.bajajauto.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Bajaj Auto</a> (269,900), <a href="https://www.atherenergy.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ather Energy</a> (200,874), <a href="https://www.olaelectric.com/experience-centre-visit-registration?utm_source=google&amp;utm_medium=cpc_search&amp;utm_campaign=Brand-Top-cities-ola-test-ride&amp;gad_source=1&amp;gclid=Cj0KCQiAhc-sBhCEARIsAOVwHuTgMIs6kH_Xjc13dhtee2m14FCz6So6bcbJr8rE2hvqoVe4DSopMLQaApFjEALw_wcB" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ola Electric</a> (199,324), and <a href="https://www.heromotocorp.com/en-in.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Hero Motocorp</a> (109,200).</p>
<p><strong>Electric three-wheelers</strong></p>
<p>Electric three-wheelers constituted 35% (796,658) of all EVs sold during the year. <a href="https://mahindralastmilemobility.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Mahindra Last Mile Mobility</a> sold 95,282 units, the most in this category, followed by <a href="https://www.bajajauto.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Bajaj Auto</a> (78,544), <a href="https://www.ycevehicles.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">YC Electric Vehicle </a> (41,229), <a href="https://www.saeraauto.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Saera Electric Auto</a> (24,799), and <a href="https://www.citylifeev.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Dilli Electric Auto</a> (21,916).</p>
<p><strong>Electric four-wheelers</strong></p>
<p>Electric four-wheelers accounted for 7.5% of total sales, or 170,266 units, in 2025. <a href="https://www.tatamotors.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Tata Motors</a> led the segment again, selling 65,942 units, followed by <a href="https://www.mgmotor.co.in/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">JSW MG Motor</a>, selling 50,654 units. Other significant electric four-wheeler companies in the market include <a href="https://www.mahindra.com/our-business/automotive" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Mahindra Electric Automobile</a> (30,143), <a href="https://www.hyundai.com/in/en" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Hyundai</a> (6,700), and <a href="https://bydautoindia.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">BYD</a> (5,113).</p>
<p><strong>Electric buses</strong></p>
<p>The year saw the sale of 4,395 electric buses. <a href="https://pmielectro.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">PMI Electro Mobility Solutions </a>led the segment, selling 1,041 units, followed by <a href="https://olectra.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Olectra Greentech</a>, selling 989 units. Other significant electric bus companies in the market include <a href="https://www.switchmobilityev.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Switch Mobility Automotive </a>(950), <a href="https://www.jbmgroup.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">JBM Auto</a> (692), and <a href="https://pinnacleindustries.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Pinnacle Mobility Solutions </a>(305).</p>
<p>EV sales in India <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/electric-vehicle-sales-clock-12-5-yoy-growth-in-q3-2025" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reached</a> 560,637 units in the third quarter of 2025, an over 12.5% year-over-year increase from 497,974 units.</p>

					</table><p><strong>Tata Power Renewable Energy (</strong><a href="https://www.tatapower.com/businesses/renewables.aspx" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>TPREL</strong></a><strong>), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tata Power, received the letter of award from the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Corporation to set up a 150 MW solar project in Solapur.</strong> With this, the total renewables capacity, including pipeline projects of TPREL, has reached 5.79 GW. Out of the total installed capacity of 3.88 GW, solar accounts for 2.95 GW and wind for 928 MW. Another 1.91 GW of projects are under various stages of implementation. The project will be commissioned within 18 months from the date of the signing of the power purchase agreement.</p>
<p><strong>Amazon India and TVS Motor Company </strong><a href="https://press.aboutamazon.in/news-releases/news-release-details/amazon-india-and-tvs-motor-company-sign-mou-scale-ev-deployment" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>announced</strong></a><strong> a strategic agreement to strengthen electric mobility, electric infrastructure, and connected services.</strong> As part of this deal, a fleet of electric two-wheelers and three-wheelers from TVS Motor will be deployed for Amazon’s last-mile deliveries. To test solutions, the two companies will pilot TVS Motor’s EV solutions through partner base and delivery associates across India. In 2020, Amazon India announced that it would include 10,000 EVs in its delivery fleet by 2025. The collaboration is also in line with TVS Motor’s announcements aiming to have EVs across segments like delivery, commuter, and premium.</p>
<p><strong>Emergent Solren (ESPL) has been </strong><a href="https://www.bseindia.com/xml-data/corpfiling/AttachLive/18094871-9a44-4929-bcfa-c31803d833dc.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>incorporated</strong></a><strong> as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Mahindra Holdings, which in turn is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Mahindra &amp; Mahindra.</strong> The subsidiary has been incorporated for producing and selling solar power, generating electricity and distributed energy, including rooftop solar installation for the commercial, industrial, institutional and residential segments, solar water pumps, and other related matters. The authorized share capital of ESPL is ₹1 million (~$12,290), comprising 100,000 equity shares of ₹10 each (~$0.12). The paid-up share capital of ESPL is ₹500,000 (~$6,145), including 50,000 equity shares of ₹10 (~$0.12) each.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gautamsolar.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Gautam Solar</strong></a><strong> has expanded its G2X series of modules by launching high-efficiency solar modules of 450W with bigger M10 cells.</strong> The modules are said to be compact in size, making them easier to handle, particularly in rooftop solar installations. With a dimension of 1,923 mm x 1,134 mm x 35 mm, the modules offer 206.4 W/m2 of power per unit area. The modules are being manufactured at the company’s manufacturing facility in Haridwar, Uttarakhand, which expanded its manufacturing capacity to 400 MW, with plans to expand it to 1 GW in the near future.</p>
<p><strong>The Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) has notified that the ‘Deviation Settlement Mechanism and Related Matters Regulations, 2022’ will </strong><a href="https://egazette.nic.in/WriteReadData/2022/240138.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>come</strong></a><strong> into force from December 5, 2022.</strong> The regulations were first proposed in September last year and were finalized in March 2022. In another notification, CERC added that the ‘Terms and Conditions for Renewable Energy Certificates for Renewable Energy Generation Regulations, 2022’ will also be <a href="https://egazette.nic.in/WriteReadData/2022/240140.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">valid</a> from December 5, 2022. The regulation was finalized in May this year.</p>


Daily News Wrap-Up: Tata Power Bags 150 MW Solar Project from Maharashtra DISCOM

<p><a href="https://www.ultraviolette.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Ultraviolette Automotive Private Limited</a>, a Bangalore-based electric vehicle (EVs) startup, announced that it had secured ₹300 million (~$4.08 million) from <a href="https://www.tvsmotor.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">TVS Motor Company</a> in a Series B funding round.</p>
<p>TVS Motor Company’s stake in Ultraviolette Automotive Private Limited now stands at 29.48% with this investment.</p>
<p>The electric vehicle startup presented the pre-production version of its first electric motorcycle &#8211; the F77 &#8211; back in November 2019. The company is expected to launch the electric motorcycle commercially in several phases in 2021.</p>
<p>“We see rapid growth in the Indian two-wheeler industry with a special focus on the electric vehicles, and it is in this context we set out to create a high-performance electric motorcycle,” said Narayan Subramaniam, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Ultraviolette Automotive Private Limited.</p>
<p>“We have conducted track and road tests on the motorcycle, adjusting and modifying the specifications and have built out a robust technology platform to support enhanced user experience,” he added.</p>
<p>According to Ultraviolette, the F77 is equipped with three lithium-ion battery packs with a total capacity of 4.2 kWh and a regenerative braking system. Regenerative braking uses kinetic energy, which is usually lost during braking, to provide additional power to the electric motor. The motorcycle also has other features like multiple ride modes, ride diagnostics, among others.</p>
<p>The Ministry of Road Transport and Highway (MORTH) recently <a href="https://mercomindia.com/to-electric-mobility-without-batteries/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">announced</a> that all the states and union territories had now been allowed the registration and sale of EVs without pre-fitted batteries. The move could provide a boost for the wider adoption of EVs across the country.</p>
<p>In May 2020, Euler Motors, a New Delhi-based electric vehicle manufacturer, <a href="https://mercomindia.com/electric-vehicle-euler-raises-inventus/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">announced</a> that it had raised ₹200 million (~$2.66 million) as part of its ongoing Series A funding led by Inventus Capital India, a Bengaluru-based venture capital firm.</p>
