					</table><p><a href="https://www.coalindia.in/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Coal India</a> and <a href="https://sarus.co.in/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Sarus Infrastructures</a> have won the Telangana Power Generation Corporation (<a href="https://tggenco.com/TGGENCO/home.do" target="_blank" rel="noopener">TGGENCO</a>) auction to set up 375 MW/1,500 MWh standalone battery storage systems.</p>
<p>Coal India and Sarus Infrastructures won 187.5 MW/750 MWh each for setting up battery storage systems at the Choutuppal and Maheswaram substations, respectively.</p>
<p>The tender was <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/telangana-invites-bids-for-1-5-gwh-of-standalone-battery-energy-storage" target="_blank" rel="noopener">floated</a> in November 2025.</p>
<p>The project at the Choutuppal substation is estimated to cost ₹10.57 billion (~$112.06 million). The Maheswaram substation project is valued at ₹10.15 billion (~$107.62 million).</p>
<p>Sarus Infrastructures and Coal India must connect the battery storage systems to the Maheswaram and Choutuppal substations at the 400/220 kV level.</p>
<p>The battery storage systems must be available for one full operational cycle per day, i.e., 1 complete charge-discharge cycle lasting 4 hours. It must also guarantee a minimum system availability of 95% annually.</p>
<p>The battery storage systems must guarantee an AC-to-AC round-trip efficiency of 85% for the system each month.</p>
<p>Winners can also take a separate metered connection from the distribution companies or draw power from an interconnection point for the battery storage systems’ auxiliary power load.</p>
<p>TGGENCO will provide land on a right-to-use basis at an annual lease fee of ₹1 (~$0.011)/acre/year.</p>
<p>The projects must be commissioned within 18 months from the effective date of the battery energy storage purchase agreement (BESPA).</p>
<p>The BESPA, which will be signed within 30 days of the issuance of the letters of award, will be valid for 15 years from the project’s full commissioning.</p>
<p>The battery energy storage systems will receive viability gap funding (VGF) of ₹1.8 million (~$20,186)/MWh of the awarded capacity. The VGF will be disbursed in three tranches: 20% at financial closure, 50% at commercial operation date (COD), and 30% a year post-COD upon certification.</p>
<p>Winners must only use commercially established and operational technologies to minimize technology risk and achieve timely commissioning of the projects.</p>
<p>Last year, TGGENCO <a href="https://mercomindia.com/telangana-500-mwh-standalone-bess" target="_blank" rel="noopener">invited</a> bids to set up a 250 MW/500 MWh pilot project for standalone battery energy storage systems in Telangana.</p>

					</table><p>Uttarakhand Power Corporation (<a href="https://www.upcl.org/wss/home" target="_blank" rel="noopener">UPCL</a>) has floated tenders to set up standalone battery energy storage systems (BESS) with a cumulative capacity of 100 MW/250 MWh.</p>
<p>The last date to submit bids is March 10, 2026. Bids will be opened on March 11.</p>
<p>The tenders were floated for three clusters.</p>
<p>Cluster A comprises 36 MW/90 MWh in Rudrapur, Kashipur, Haldwani, and Pithoragarh; Cluster B comprises 23 MW/57.5 MWh in Dehradun (Urban) and Dehradun (Rural); and Cluster C comprises 41 MW/102.5 MWh in Tehri, Haridwar, and Roorkee.</p>
<p>Bidders must submit an earnest money deposit of ₹36.1 million (~$398,598) for Cluster A, ₹23.1 million (~$255,059) for Cluster B, and ₹41.3 million (~$456,181) for Cluster C.</p>
<p>They must also submit a performance guarantee of ₹113.4 million (~$1.25 million) for Cluster A, ₹72.5 million (~$800,509) for Cluster B, and ₹129.2 million (~$1.43 million) for Cluster C.</p>
<p>Bidders must submit a tender fee of ₹29,500 (~$325.72) for each cluster. Projects can avail of up to ₹1.8 million (~$19,874.7)/MWh per project.</p>
<p>They must also submit a document processing fee of ₹845,000 (~$9,333) for Cluster A, ₹540,000 (~$5,963) for Cluster B, and ₹963,000 (~$10,636) for Cluster C.</p>
<p>The projects are estimated at ₹1.8 billion (~$19.87 million) for Cluster A, ₹1.16 billion (~$12.81 million) for Cluster B, and ₹2.06 billion (~$22.75 million) for Cluster C.</p>
<p>Successful bidders must sign a battery energy storage purchase agreement (BESPA) with UPCL for 12 years after the commercial operation date. They must also complete the projects within 12 months from signing BESPA or handing over the projects.</p>
<p>The scope of work covers site survey, design, engineering, financing, supply, installation, testing, commissioning, operation, and maintenance of grid-connected battery energy storage system (BESS) projects.</p>
<p>The BESS must be designed for UPCL to charge and discharge on an on-demand basis as per the dispatch instructions issued by the state load dispatch center/system operations wing of UPCL.</p>
<p>The projects must discharge for a minimum of 2.5 hours per cycle and for two cycles per day.</p>
<p>They must be interconnected at UPCL’s 33 kV distribution network.</p>
<p>The projects can be technology agnostic. Successful bidders can also use lithium-ion battery storage technology.</p>
<p>UPCL will provide land with its 33/11 kV substation for the installation of BESS under a right-of-use agreement.</p>
<p>Successful bidders must bear all costs related to transmission and evacuation infrastructure from the BESS up to the point of inclusion.</p>
<p>The BESS must provide real-time visibility, through SCADA integration, on state of charge, readiness for remote operation, cumulative energy imported/exported, and other operational and health parameters to UPCL’s control systems.</p>
<p>Successful bidders must deploy a battery management system and an energy management system (EMS) along with the BESS projects. The EMS must be developed in India.</p>
<p>UPCL is planning the BESS for arbitrage and to provide ramping support for the grid.</p>
<p>The BESS must be available for at least 95% of the time and guarantee an AC-to-AC round-trip efficiency of 85%.</p>
<p>Bidders must have developed a single standalone BESS of 63 MWh or two projects of 36 MWh, or three projects of 11 MW in the last seven years. The projects must have been commissioned before March 31, 2025.</p>
<p>Alternatively, they may have completed a single solar plus BESS project totalling 25 MW, or two solar plus storage projects totalling 14 MW, or three projects totalling 11 MW in the last seven years. The projects must have been completed before March 31, 2025.</p>
<p>Bidders must have designed, engineered, and constructed substations from 400 kV to 33 kV voltage level with a single project of at least ₹1.26 billion (~$13.91 million), or two projects of ₹720 million (~$7.95 million) each, or three projects of ₹540 million (~$5.96 million) each in the last seven years. The projects must have been operational for at least two years.</p>
<p>They may be an engineering, procurement, and construction contractor/developer of renewable energy projects, having commissioned a single project totalling 25 MW over the last seven years. Each project must be at least 8 MW and operational for at least 2 years. The projects must have been connected up to at least the 33 kV level.</p>
<p>Bidders may be an original equipment manufacturer of containerized battery energy storage systems or an entity holding an Indian manufacturing license agreement with a BESS manufacturer. The BESS manufacturer must have supplied a cumulative BESS capacity of at least 100 MWh, with each project having a capacity of at least 15 MWh.</p>
<p>Bidders must have a positive net worth in the last three financial years and a minimum annual turnover of at least ₹541.5 million (~$5.97 million) in the best three years of the last five financial years.</p>
<p>They must also have liquid assets and/or evidence of access to or availability of fund-based credit facilities of at least ₹361 million (~$3.98 million),</p>
<p>Recently, UJVNL <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/uttarakhand-invites-bids-to-set-up-16-mw-40-mwh-bess-in-haridwar" target="_blank" rel="noopener">floated</a> a tender to set up a 16 MW/40 MWh BESS at the Pathri substation and hydroelectric project in Uttarakhand’s Haridwar district.</p>
<p>It also <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/uttarakhand-invites-bids-to-set-up-16-mw-40-mwh-bess-in-haridwar" target="_blank" rel="noopener">floated</a> two tenders to set up 15 MW/37.5 MWh standalone BESS each in the Udham Singh Nagar and Dehradun districts of Uttarakhand.</p>

<p>Advait Energy Transitions won 150 MW/300 MWh at a tariff of ₹210,000 (~$2,319.67)/MW/month, and Equentia Natural Resources won 65 MW/130 MWh at a tariff of ₹211,999 (~2,341.75)/MW/month.</p>
<p>Sun Drops Energia secured 120 MW/240 MWh under the bucket-filling method, at a tariff of ₹212,000 (~$2,341.77)/MW/month.</p>

<p>The tender was <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/guvnl-issues-335-mw-670-mwh-standalone-bess-tender" target="_blank" rel="noopener">floated</a> in December 2025.</p>
<p>The scope of work includes the design, financing, supply, installation, testing, commissioning, operation, and maintenance of the BESS.</p>
<p>It also entails ensuring the BESS is available to GUVNL for charging/discharging on a demand basis. The BESS must be designed for 2 cycles of charging and discharging.</p>
<p>The BESS will be charged by drawing power from Gujarat Energy Transmission Corporation (GETCO) and injecting it into the GETCO network, as per instructions from the state load dispatch center.</p>
<p>Projects must be located at or near GETCO’s intrastate transmission system substations.</p>
<p>The successful bidders must identify and arrange land for the project. Interconnection is required at a minimum voltage of 66 kV, as stipulated by GETCO.</p>
<p>The projects will receive viability gap funding (VGF) of ₹1.8 million (~$21,687)/MWh of awarded capacity, under the Power System Development Fund.</p>
<p>Winners will sign a battery energy storage purchase agreement (BESPA) for 12 years from full commissioning. The projects must be commissioned within 18 months from the BESPA’s effective date.</p>
<p>Projects must use a minimum local content requirement of 20% of the total project cost.</p>
<p>The BESS must guarantee a minimum system availability of 95% annually and an AC-to-AC round-trip efficiency of 85% each month.</p>
<p>The software for the BESS&#8217;s energy management system must be developed in India.</p>
<p>Last year, Sun Drops Energia, ENGIE Energy, Mecpower Solutions, Samavist Energy Solutions, Stockwell Solar Services, Solar 91 Cleantech, Viviana Power Tech, Rajesh Power Services, and Ultimate Flexipack <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/sun-drops-engie-among-winners-of-gujarat-discoms-4-gwh-bess-auction" target="_blank" rel="noopener">won</a> GUVNL’s auction to develop 2,000 MW/4,000 MWh of standalone BESS across Gujarat (Phase VII).</p>

The principal TGERC Terms and Conditions of Open Access Regulation, 2024, were notified on March 18, 2024.</p>
<p>Power Grid Corporation of India (POWERGRID) <a href="https://mercomindia.com/powergrid-invites-bids-to-set-up-125-mw-500-mwh-bess-in-chhattisgarh" target="_blank" rel="noopener">invited</a> bids to set up a 125 MW/500 MWh state transmission unit-connected standalone battery energy storage system (BESS) for the Chhattisgarh State Power Distribution Company. The BESS project will receive viability gap funding support through the Power System Development Fund. Bids must be submitted by January 30, 2026. Bids will be opened on the same day.</p>
<p>Rajasthan Electronics and Instruments (REIL) <a href="https://mercomindia.com/reil-floats-tender-for-17-5-mw-rooftop-solar-projects-across-india" target="_blank" rel="noopener">invited</a> bids for the installation of grid-connected rooftop solar systems with a cumulative capacity of 17.5 MW on government buildings across different states and union territories under the Renewable Energy Service Company model. REIL has set a ceiling tariff of ₹4.64 (~$0.051)/kWh for general-category sites and ₹5.15 (~$0.056)/kWh for special-category sites.</p>
<p>Madhya Pradesh Power Management Company <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/madhya-pradesh-invites-bids-for-1-5-gwh-standalone-bess-projects" target="_blank" rel="noopener">invited</a> bids to set up 750 MW/1.5 GWh (two units of 250 MW/500 MWh and two units of 125 MW/250 MWh) of standalone BESS under a build, own, and operate model. The projects will be developed with support from viability gap funding (VGF). The VGF amount eligible for the developer would be limited to ₹1.8 million (~$19,639)/MWh.</p>
<p>Solar module manufacturer ADM Solar Power Infrastructure <a href="https://mercomindia.com/module-manufacturer-adm-to-buy-solar-power-from-aveners-10-mw-project" target="_blank" rel="noopener">signed</a> a long-term power purchase agreement with Avener Green to procure 10 MW of solar power in captive mode. The procured solar power will be used to meet the power demand of ADM Solar Power’s module manufacturing facilities in Uttar Pradesh. ADM Solar Power has an 850 MW solar module manufacturing facility in Faridabad and is planning to set up a 1,200 MW integrated solar module and cell manufacturing facility in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh.</p>
<p>Independent power producer Juniper Green Energy fully <a href="https://mercomindia.com/juniper-green-commissions-100-mwh-merchant-bess" target="_blank" rel="noopener">commissioned</a> a merchant BESS with a total capacity of 100 MWh at Bikaner in Rajasthan. The project has been developed through Juniper Green Cosmic, its wholly owned subsidiary. Of the total capacity, 60 MWh was commissioned in December 2025, while the remaining 40 MWh was commissioned on January 23, 2026. The entire project has completed trial operations and has received approval from the Northern Regional Load Dispatch Centre.</p>
<p>Wind turbine manufacturer Suzlon Group <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/suzlon-bags-248-85-mw-wind-turbine-order-from-arcelormittal" target="_blank" rel="noopener">secured</a> a 248.85 MW wind turbine generator order from Luxembourg-based steel and mining company ArcelorMittal Group through its Indian renewable energy entity, to decarbonize steel production. The order is part of a 550 MW hybrid energy project in Gujarat. Suzlon will supply 79 of its S144 turbines to ArcelorMittal Nippon’s steel facilities, with each rated at 3.15 MW.</p>
<p>The U.S. Department of Commerce <a href="https://mercomindia.com/us-slaps-countervailable-duties-on-select-chinese-solar-cell-companies" target="_blank" rel="noopener">imposed</a> countervailable duties on select crystalline silicon cells, whether or not assembled into modules, imported from China during the review period between January 1, 2022, and December 31, 2022. The investigation named three Chinese companies – Yingli Energy (China) Company, Jiangsu Highhope International, and Yangzhou Jinghua New Energy Technology, for which countervailable duties of 117.41% will apply.</p>
<p>NTPC Green Energy, NLC India, and Adani Green Energy cumulatively <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/ntpc-nlc-india-adani-green-commission-321-6-mw-solar-projects" target="_blank" rel="noopener">commissioned</a> 321.6 MW of solar projects in Gujarat and Rajasthan. NTPC Green Energy commissioned 130.47 MW out of the 1,255 MW Khavda-I Solar project in Gujarat under the central public sector undertaking program’s Phase-II of Tranche-III. After the latest commissioning, NTPC Green Energy’s commercial capacity stands at 8478.25 W.</p>
<p>Energy storage solutions provider Meine Electric <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/battery-manufacturer-meine-electric-raises-%E2%82%B967-million-in-pre-seed-funding" target="_blank" rel="noopener">raised</a> $750,000 (~₹67 million) in a pre-seed funding round from Antler, Rebalance, Venture Catalysts, gradCapital, and AIC-AU Incubation Foundation, as well as angel investors. This funding will be utilized to accelerate Meine’s transition from laboratory-scale prototypes to pilot-ready iron-air battery systems.</p>
<p>The U.S. Department of Energy’s Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/us-doe-announces-30-million-for-energy-innovation-programs" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> $30 million in funding across three programs intended to help the country’s energy consumers reduce electricity costs, develop ultra-high-density energy storage systems for national security technologies, and support energy innovators.</p>
