Masdar and Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC) have broken ground on a solar-plus-storage project capable of delivering round-the-clock baseload energy. The project will integrate a 5.2 GW solar power project with a 19 GWh battery energy storage system (BESS). It will also include AI-enhanced forecasting and intelligent dispatch, along with an AI-ready infrastructure for predictive analysis and system optimization. Once operational, the project will deliver 1 GW of baseload power annually. The project is expected to be operational by 2027.
